February is one of those months that gets a bit overlooked. Not only is it short, but we tend to wish it away in the hurry to get to March and the start of spring.
So this February I have made a real effort to stop and use these four weeks to reset and get ready for the much-awaited warmer weather and longer days. Let’s look at the positives…
- The weather. We’ve had it all this month. Spring-like blue sky days, a dump of snow, a load more rain and some milder days too. Whether you’re a snow lover or hater, it was lovely to see everything blanketed in white, surrounded by the unmistakable quiet that snow brings.
- Valentine’s Day. Another divisive one – celebrate it or ignore it? This year had a different feel to it, with friends and family celebrating and appreciating each other. I know so many people who sent flowers to their mums and friends, or just a card to tell them how special and loved they are.
- Longer days. They are coming! Every day we have a few minutes’ extra daylight. Yes, it happens every year, but this year we really need that boost of looking forward to more daytime. It truly means spring is around the corner and that also means Mother’s Day, another chance to show our mums how much we appreciate them.
- Covid vaccinations. Whatever your view of this, the vaccination programme is going well and is giving us hope for the future management of Covid. Lockdown v3 seems to have worked and spring will see the beginnings of the easing of lockdown. Isn’t it lovely to be able to look forward to Easter and beyond, when we can spend time in slightly bigger groups, enjoying the company of those who mean the most to us?
Use the next few weeks to come out of hibernation and take a good look at the changes that have been slowly happening, even with the snow. Spring flowers are popping up and if you look closely, you’ll see buds on the trees. Get back into the habit of going out daily and step into spring. Make a point of properly looking around you – perhaps try to take one picture everyday of something you notice.
I have everything crossed that we can start outdoor classes again before too long and look forward to hearing what you’ve been doing to keep motivated with your fitness through the month. Keep an eye on my class calendar for the restart of outdoor classes – and I’ll be sure to be shouting about it too!
Stay safe x
