Why I’m writing letters again…

This summer I’ve found myself drawn to simpler things.

Not because they’re fashionable, but because they genuinely make me feel happier, calmer and more connected.

One of those simple pleasures has been writing letters.

The Sunday Letter Project

I’ve been a subscriber to Simple Things magazine for many years. It’s one of those magazines I always look forward to reading because it’s full of gentle reminders to slow down and appreciate everyday life.

One idea that particularly resonated with me was The Sunday Letter Project.

It describes itself as:

A writing project for a disconnected world, a weekly invitation to balance, recalibrate, reconnect and return.”

That really struck a chord with me.

In a world where we’re constantly connected through technology, taking the time to sit down and write a letter feels surprisingly meaningful.

Rediscovering human connection

Back in May, I decided to send my first letter to my auntie.

Since then, apart from missing a couple of weeks, I’ve been writing letters regularly to family and friends.

My auntie even replied using beautiful Pigeon Posted stationery, which inspired me to buy some packs myself.

There’s something wonderfully different about receiving a handwritten letter. You know someone has intentionally set aside time just for you.

My favourite part of the week

I love sitting outside to write whenever the weather allows (although that may have to change as we head into winter!).

A cup of coffee beside me, calming music in my ears, pen on paper.

It’s become one of my favourite ways to start the day.

As I was writing this week’s letter (which is actually this blog), it made me realise how closely this simple ritual reflects the way I want to live my life.

The joy is in the small things

We often overcomplicate health and wellbeing.

Yet the moments that bring me the greatest joy are usually the smallest ones.

  • Watching a bee in our passion flower.
  • Walking somewhere new.
  • Watching the sunset with my family.
  • Sharing conversations with people I care about.

None of these cost anything.

But they all help me feel happier, calmer and more connected.

Small daily habits create lasting change

It’s exactly the same philosophy behind my Feel Good Clubs.

They’re never about drastic changes or trying to become a completely different person overnight.

They’re about taking one small action each day that moves you towards better health.

A short stretch.

A walk.

Drinking more water.

Taking a few quiet moments for yourself.

Those little actions soon become habits.

In fact, thanks to these monthly groups, I’m now in a regular stretching routine, something I’d struggled to maintain for years.

The accountability, encouragement and supportive community make all the difference.

As one member recently said:

“It’s the perfect blend of being part of something without feeling like it’s one more thing.”

I couldn’t have described it better myself.

A small invitation

And finally, if you’d like to receive one of my handwritten letters one day, I’d genuinely love to send you one.

And if you’re looking for a simple, supportive way to build healthier habits without pressure or perfection, I’d love you to join one of my Feel Good Clubs too.
