Can I add a bit more simplicity to my life?

Fynshovedvej, Denmark

I often return from a holiday with actions or habits that I want to continue, this year is no different.

We have just returned from two weeks away which was split between Germany and Denmark, the former bookending the latter. In Germany we camped (tent and campervan), whereas in Denmark we were fortunate to have the use of a holiday home.

Camping forces us to live more simply, there isn’t the need or space to have loads of belongings with us and evenings are enjoyed as a family playing Uno, or going for a walk. It also allows the pace of life to slow, walking to the shower, toilet or washing up facilities as well as just sitting and observing.

My first action is to try and live more simply; decluttering and getting rid of anything we don’t need and/or use, this is definitely a very gradual process. The second part of this action is to cook more sensibly and reduce waste. We came home from holiday with a unused baguette (1-day old), so this has been breadcrumbed today and will be used in this casserole this evening. What can we buy that will make two dinners, or an evening meal and lunch the following day? What meals can be made from our weekly veg box? Weekly planning will be key to this working.

My second action is to try and take a break from the routine more often, this is what is so nice about being away, no deadlines of time demands. I must admit, I do like routine, but am sure there is space to be found EVERY week for a little adventure.

I will revisit these words in a month, so that I can update you with my progress so far…
