Monday musings: A week on from London to Brighton, what now?

A week on from the London-Brighton bike ride, and I’m feeling a bit lost.

I absolutely loved the event. 55 miles with my husband, raising money for Abigail’s Footsteps, it gave me something to properly focus on for weeks beforehand, and crossing that finish line together was a great moment.

But now the ride is done, the fundraising page has quietened down, and I find myself thinking: what next?

The business goals are clear

On the business side, I know exactly where I’m headed. I’m working towards 25 members in The Feel Good October Club and 50+ Google reviews by the end of December 2026, built through The Wellbeing MOTs I am now offering.

Those goals keep me busy, and I’m proud of them. But they’re goals for Emma Fitness. This week I’m thinking what’s next for me, personally?

Why physical challenges matter to me

I know they’re not for everyone, and that’s absolutely fine. But physical challenges give me something that perhaps I’m missing elsewhere, I’m not entirely sure what. What I do know is that they give me real focus, and a drive to succeed that spills into everything else I do.

The finish time is rarely what stays with me. It’s really more about taking part, about the version of yourself that shows up on the day and keeps going anyway.

Events like this stay with me long after they’re over. One that’s stuck with me is Trailwalker, a team event of 4, covering 100km, with a 30-hour time limit. It was hard. Honestly, there were more moments of pain, physically, emotionally, and mentally, than I’d care to admit. But I loved every bit of it. “Tough times don’t last, tough people” was the mantra that kept be going throughout. If you want to find out more of my experience from this event click here.

It seems that the challenges that hurt the most in the moment are the ones I end up treasuring afterwards.

So, what’s next?

That’s the question I’m sitting with this week. I am thinking perhaps another walk, but where and when, who knows?

From my own experience and from working with clients every single week: having a “next” on the calendar isn’t about chasing a personal best or proving anything to anyone else. It’s about giving yourself a reason to keep your own wellbeing a priority, the same way I encourage everyone I work with to do.

It’s easy, as someone who spends my working life helping other people set goals and stay accountable to them, to forget to do the same for myself. This week has been a good, slightly uncomfortable reminder that I need to practise what I preach.

So, watch this space. I don’t have the answer yet, but I’m enjoying sitting with the question.

What about you? Do you have a “next” on your calendar, or are you due one? I’d love to hear what keeps you motivated, drop me a message or comment below and if you have a challenge suggestion for me, I’d also love to hear it.

Quick weight loss update

Since last week’s blog, I’m 2lb down, steady progress towards that stone by 10th November. Nothing dramatic, just consistency and showing up for my own plan the same way I ask my clients to show up for theirs. Slow and steady, but moving in the right direction.
