These are challenging times for both and physical and mental wellbeing, but it is certainly possible to either maintain some kind of health regime or perhaps even start a new health habit.
Why?
Did you know that exercising 3-5 times per week produces a significant reduction in depression compared to once a week? It also provides you with new challenges and gives you an aim and focus in life.
In addition to this outdoor exercise provides a mental health boost beyond that of being indoors, so get out in your garden (if you are lucky enough to have one) and perhaps that might inspire your neighbours to start exercising as well.
You are more likely to achieve your fitness goals if you plan it in. We go out for our daily walk or bike ride and I also carry out my own circuit every other day, early morning works best for me, but this is completely individual. You might find that if you schedule an exercise session in the middle of the day, this will give you a perfect break from your desk but also make you more productive in the afternoon.
There is not a great deal of positive news out there at the moment, so this an ideal time to create your own upbeat story. Can you imagine how good you would feel at the end of this if you were the healthiest you had ever been?
“I arrived stressed out and fed up and dealing with a family issue – I left 45 minutes later having laughed, cried and got rid of the blues! And my fitness is really improving each week which is fab but the bonus of feeling better and brighter is even better.”
What exercise is best?
- Cycling
- Home circuits
- Walking
- Running
- Jumping on the kid’s trampoline – if your pelvic floor is not what it used to be, check out my Holistic Core Restore® course
- Have you got Swingball in the garage that you can dust off?
The choice is yours, the key is to make a start, my only word of warning would be that if you are new to exercise avoid any of the online programmes where the instructor can’t see you, for example, something like the Joe Wicks PE lesson. If you are doing an exercise wrong, there is potential for you to get injured. Whether people join me for 1-2-1 sessions or a group, they complete a screening form so that I am aware of any pre-existing injuries or illnesses and I can, therefore, adapt accordingly.
